HOMILY FOR THE 28TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C
THEME: “HERE IS A SAYING THAT YOU CAN RELY ON”
BY: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu
HOMILY FOR SUNDAY OCTOBER 9 2022
This is the 28th Sunday in ordinary time. Thanksgiving is an act of faith. To say, “I thank you” is to appreciate a good act. The saying that faith heals is reliable. And when one receives healing there is joy. In such a joyous moment we sing, dance, jump up and raise our voices in praising and thanksgiving God. Naaman received healing and went to thank Elisha the prophet. It was an act of faith because he exclaimed; “Now I know that there is no God in all the earth except in Israel” (2 Kgs. 5:14-17). Our God is a living God!
Those who do not believe in God are always confused. In their confusion they do not acknowledge the power of God. Truth is bitter to their ears. For this reason, most world leaders want to chain up the truth. Paul says, “here is a saying you can rely on, they cannot chain up God’s news” (2 Tim. 2;8-13). This means, nothing can stop us from thanking God. And nothing surpasses God. If we believe in God and do the right thing, we shall inherit eternal life. Most importantly, nothing can separate us from the love of God!
In his love God sent his son to set us free. For the freedom we enjoy we give God thanks always. The Holy Eucharist we partake of is itself Thanksgiving. The songs we sing during the Eucharistic celebration are songs of Thanksgiving. This Thanksgiving is what the Samaritan lepper reminds us of in the Gospel. Jesus acknowledged the appreciation shown him by one lepper out of ten (Lk. 17:11-19). That you are living today is enough reason for giving thanks to God. Therefore, Count your blessings, name them one by one, ain’t it surprising what the Lord has done. THANK YOU JESUS ! Happy Sunday.
