HOMILY FOR THE 25TH MONDAY OF ORDINARY TIME: YEAR A

HOMILY FOR THE 25TH MONDAY OF ORDINARY TIME: YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE

BY: Fr Ernest Cross

Luke 8:16-18

In the gospel of today, the Lord asserts that “no one lights a lamp and covers it with a vessel. “ This expresses the fact that our faith is not meant to be a secret affair. Rather being hidden away, Faith is a divine flame meant to illumine the world. By the virtue of our baptism, we are all bearers of divine light entrusted to us by Christ . This light of faith carries a responsibility to shine even when circumstances are difficult, even when the world prefers falsehood to truth.

To shine consistently for Christ requires courage. We need the grace of courage as soldiers of Christ to remain faithful in small daily choices, in witness before our families, at work, and in society. Our success as disciples of Christ begins when realise that this courage does not come from ourselves, but from communion with Him who is Light from Light.

The flame of faith in our hearts will not be extinguished if it guarded with prayer and regular reception of the Holy Eucharist and works of Charity. Jesus is the Lord and his light cannot be overcome in the lives of those who are open to His grace.

God bless you.
