Theme: Seek God’s mercy

Homily for Sunday September 15 2019

Today being the 24th Sunday in the ordinary time of the year C, Holy Mother the Church invites us to persist in seeking God’s mercy since God is full mercy. The Lukan Gospel (Luke 15:1-32) with threefold parables were designed to illustrate the joy of God over the repentance of sinners.

Thus, that is the LCM of the three parables of the lost sheep, the lost coin and the lost son (the prodigal son). Freedom when mismanage will lead to lost of temporal and spiritual possessions and benefits. Realizing what we have lost through introspection will definitely arouse contrition and confession which attract absolution and restoration. Many have been lost through foolishness like the sheep. Also, some are lost through no fault of their own but through the carelessness of others like the coin. While majority are lost as result of their deliberate conscious turning away from God like the lost or Prodigal son.

In which ever state we see ourselves, may God grant us His grace always to be found again for His greatest glory. Happy Sunday to you.

Fr Emmanuel Nwokeji.
