HOMILY FOR THE 15TH MONDAY OF ORDINARY TIME: YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: OUR HELP IS IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Today’s first reading begins in a rather interesting manner – “There came to power in Egypt a new king who knew nothing of Joseph…” We are familiar with the rest of the story. The new Pharaoh practically turned the sons of Israel into slaves; making them do all kinds of manual labour. He even gave a command that any male child born to the Hebrew women should be thrown into the river as a means of birth control…

Friends, let’s not get discouraged too quickly. The glory that Joseph had in Egypt was never tied to Pharaoh. It came directly from God. Let’s not forget that Joseph had suffered under the previous Pharaoh before he was vindicated. This is why the Psalmist reminds us today that our help is in the name of the Lord. We may have fallen out of favour from the world’s Pharaohs. But we cannot fall out of God’s favour. Why not spend more energy working for God then? There will always arise a Pharaoh who knows nothing of Joseph. There will always come a time when worldly power and fame will cease. So stick with God. Are you with me?
Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
