Homily for Saturday April 9 2022

*READINGS OF THE DAY*
Ezekiel 37:21-28
Resp: Jeremiah 31:10-13
John 11:45-56

*FROM OUR FIRST READING*
In today’s first reading, the prophet Ezekiel has a vision of God gathering together his scattered people under one king-shepherd, David. This was a time when the people of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah that had been scattered throughout the nations as they were defeated and conquered by the Assyrians and the Babylonians respectively.

*FROM OUR GOSPEL READING*
Today’s gospel reading from the gospel of John suggests that Jesus’ death was in the service of this unifying work.
According to this gospel, Jesus’ death was the revelation of God’s love for the world, ‘God so loved the world that he gave his only Son’. It was also the complete expression of Jesus’ love for his disciples, and, through them, for the world, ‘no one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends

*WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THE READINGS OF TODAY?*
All of the baptized, regardless of their church affiliation, can gather at the foot of the cross, in response to the drawing power of Jesus’ love. As we allow ourselves to be drawn to Jesus, we will discover that we are drawn closer to each other, we become one in the Lord. Therefore, this coming Holy Week, we are invited to allow ourselves to be gathered together around the cross in response to the Lord’s great love that flows from the cross and embraces us all.

*CONCLUSION*
May God bless us always and remain with us throughout our journey of life, and may all of us have a blessed and wonderful Holy Week observance starting tomorrow.
LORD HEAR OUR PRAYERS, AND LORD GRACIOUSLY HEAR US.
