Theme: God keeps His promises

Homily for Saturday December 14 2019
(Mt. 17:9a, 10-13) Saturday of the Second Week of Advent
In today’s Gospel Jesus was asked about the prophet Isaiah. Isaiah was known to have appeared and disappeared in time. He was a great prophet. The Jews thought Jesus to be Elijah reappearing again. But Jesus clarified that Elijah indeed had come but they did not recognize him. They realized it was John the Baptist He was referring to.
God planned everything. Yet we have the freedom to follow the plan or go on our own. It is for our own good to follow and our risk and loss not to.
And why would we not go along with God’s plan? It is the best thing that can ever happen to us. It is the fullness of life for us. Even if the Jews rejected it by rejecting Jesus, God still was able to fulfill His mission of salvation. Talk about God’s love for us!
Jesus, even after He died, did not forsake us. Elijah came and went. Jesus, the Prophet of Prophets came and stayed with us. He was rejected yet He was committed to His mission.
We should be thankful for this love. We must be thankful for the salvation. We must be thankful for this God.
