HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I. (1)

HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I.

THEME: The Christian’s Sacrifice!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

(St Agnes, Virgin, Martyr).

Heb.9:2-3,11-14; Ps.47:2-9; Mark 3:20-21

Looking around us, it’s clear that many of us have fallen prey to the god of wealth, fame and comfort. We want to be Christians, but only if Christianity does not involve making sacrifices. We want even the poorest of our congregations to keep paying huge tithes to us till they have barely nothing left. Then we go ahead to remind them that being poor is the sign of a curse. Just how confused can we get?

RELATED: HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR I

Friends, the Christian who’s not comfortable with giving the last drop of his/her blood for God isn’t fit to bear the name. Jesus who himself is God worked so hard today, he barely had time to eat. His family had to come drag him home, thinking he had lost his mind. This is the kind of sacrifice that Agnes made. Although not much is known about her, she vowed herself to a life of virginity from her earliest days and didn’t refrain from Martyrdom when the opportunity came calling at the tender age of twelve. Can we do the same?

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend.
