HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 5TH WEEK OF LENT. (2)

HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 5TH WEEK OF LENT.

THEME: Do not grow old in wickedness!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Dan.13:1-9,15-17,19-30,33-62; Ps. 23:1-6; Jn.8:1-11; John 8:12-20

Beauty poses a threat only to the Godless. Today, the beautiful Susanna, a God-fearing woman, and daughter of Hilkiah is accused falsely by two elderly men. Take note that these men certainly didn’t become evil at old age. They may have been so all their lives – all because they had no shame. They used their power as judges to intimidate and steal the innocence of others. Susanna brings to mind all those ladies who have had to pass through so much shame and humiliation from callous relatives, bosses, teachers, priests, pastors; victims of sexual abuse.

Friends, God continues to be our Shepherd. And as he raised Daniel to prove Susanna’s innocence, so he will raise courageous people to deliver us from situations that overwhelm us. Jesus reminds us in the gospel reading that we’re all sinners, deserving of God’s mercy. How then can we be just judges? By protecting the woman caught in adultery, Jesus further shows us that grace is always sufficient for the repentant sinner. May we learn not to abuse whatever powers we have over others, knowing full well that only God is the just judge, and may we also be willing to seek the truth in all situations, that we may not grow old in wickedness, but may come to know God’s will better in all situations, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
