HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 5TH WEEK OF EASTER
THEME: GIVE GLORY TO GOD
BY: Fr. Francis Onwunali
HOMILY FOR MONDAY MAY 16 2022
“Not to us, Lord, not to us, but to your Name give the glory” (Ps. 115:1). This verse sums up the message of the readings today. Every action in my life should be channeled to give glory to God.
In the gospel (John 14: 21-26), Jesus still within the context of farewell discourse with His disciples, encourages them that by obeying His words, they are ultimately obeying the Father since the words that He speaks are not His but that of the Father who sent Him.
In the first reading (Acts 14: 5-18), Paul and Barnabas protested when the people of Lycaonia wanted to offer sacrifices to them as Hermes and Zeus (Greek gods) because of the wonders God did through them. They acknowledged: “we are only instruments; to God be the glory”.
Dear friends, many times God chooses to touch lives through us and in different ways. In this era of global health, economic and religious crisis, it is possible that through you many lives have been touched, uplifted and transformed; you have become a channel of God’s benevolence. The mistake anyone will make is to jump into the pride wagon to arrogate such transformative power to oneself. How do I react to people’s gratitude on what God has done for them through me? We are only instruments in the hand of the Potter.
I pray as we journey in life today, we will learn to direct to God all the glory that belong to Him. As we glorify God, may God in turn glorify us in Himself (cf John 13: 31-32). To the One Who was, Who is, and Who is to come, be glory forever and ever. Have an enthusiastic-full day!
