Homily for Monday February 3 2020
2 Sam 15:13-14,30;16:5-13; Mark 5:1-20
If there’s anything I know I struggle with on a daily basis, it’s humility. I pray for this gift unceasingly. I’ve come across many people with this rare gift. The sheer genuineness of their humility makes me want to hide my head in shame. David reminds me of this kind of folks. He was a King, he had power, but he was also pretty humble. It was this humility that enabled him endure Absalom’s rebellion and Shimei’s many insults.
What about the demoniac in the gospel reading of today? He had broken physical fetters and chains because of the many demons in him. But after Jesus cast the demons out, the man’s true nature came out. He was so grateful and submissive, he wanted to follow Jesus wherever he went from thence. However, when Jesus asked him to remain and become a witness to his own people, he humbly obeyed, spreading the news about Jesus throughout the Decapolis. This is the attitude that breaks chains!
Good morning dear. Do have a blessed week ahead!
