HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 30TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II.

THEME: Be imitators of Christ!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).

HOMILY FOR MONDAY OCTOBER 24 2022.

Eph.4:32-5:8; Ps.1; Luke 13:10-17

I’ve worked with one man whose life is a constant attempt to be like God. Don’t get me wrong; he doesn’t try to ‘play God’. He tries to imitate God. He was our Rector at the major seminary at some point, and he led me to write a reflection I titled “the divine risk.” This man encouraged sincerity, openness, forgiveness, love and compassion; all of the things that St Paul mentions in the first reading of today. He made us realise that to be saints, we must first acknowledge that we’re sinners.

Friends, we would always have persons like the synagogue official in the gospel reading, who would frown over our expressions of love and care, for some flimsy excuses at upholding the law. Don’t worry! The Lord refers to such persons as Hypocrites. We are sons and daughters of Abraham, and we’re deserving of God’s healing, love and care, every day of the week, including the sabbath. In like manner, we must shower that same love and care on others, including the most undeserving, no matter the day, time, or place. This is what it means to be like Christ.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead!
