Homily for Monday of the 2nd Week in Ordinary Time Year A
Theme: Absolute Leadership
By: Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare
(Heb 5:1-10/Ps 110:1-4/Mk 2:18-22)
A hallmark of good leadership is taking absolute responsibility of challenges. In many countries, including Ghana, it is difficult to see leaders who take charge without blaming past leaders for current challenges. They take credit for good done and blame past administration for evil little challenge, problem and difficulty.
Jesus teaches us the contrary. In Jesus, we see a leader who is not afraid to embrace and fix challenges. He is the High Priest who leads the worship as a servant. He steps in to defend His followers against attacks and confrontations. He corrects present mistakes without blaming past prophets and leaders. Jesus deals with the present as the man in charge.
Let us learn of His boldness and lead like Jesus. Let us learn to take challenges and solve issues without hiding behind blame game and the perceived failures of past administrations. Finally, let us surrender to the leadership of Jesus. He will defend, protect and shield us in moments of danger. He will never let us down. When we are wrong, He will sternly warn and correct us with absolute love and merciful firmness.
~For the boldness and strength to live responsibly
~That we will surrender to Jesus completely
~That our legacy would be positive and beneficial
