HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: Staying Faithful!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR MONDAY JULY 18 2022

Micah 6:1-4,6-8; Matt.12:38-42

Married people can tell us more about the pains and disappointments brought about by unfaithfulness. They know it first-hand. The man who keeps sex partners outside, while constantly lying to his unsuspecting wife; the woman who pretends to care about her home, but spends her whole day thinking about another man; the anger, hatred and fighting in-between… Why do we constantly seek signs and wonders as though we couldn’t believe in God without them? This ‘seeking’, Jesus says, is the sign of an evil and UNFAITHFUL generation.

Friends, don’t we have life, hope and dreams? Aren’t we able to sleep and wake up? Don’t we have mouths that taste and talk, eyes that see, ears that hear, limbs that move about? Are we not assured of life after death by the painful sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of calvary? Shouldn’t we be more concerned about how to live better lives by turning from wrong doing, putting a smile on another’s face, saying kind words to our colleagues, visiting the unloved and the rejected… in appreciation to God for his many gifts to us? God did us no wrong by bringing us here. It’s about time we show Him some appreciation by being faithful.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
