HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 14TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: Does your heart truly believe?

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR MONDAY JULY 4 2022

Hos.2:16,17-18,21-22; Matt.9:18-26

The story is told of a man who kept praying that God should heal him of his ailment. For many years he kept at it until he finally died of the disease. Angry and disappointed, this man came before God’s throne of judgement. He wanted to know why his prayer went unanswered all these years. God looked at him and smiled, saying, “My son, you see, your heart always denied what your lips insistently prayed for, and all that matters is what your heart says, since the heart never lies. In the end, you died because your heart denied my ability to heal you.”

Friends, we must learn to conform the words of our mouths to the desires of our hearts, and vice versa. The heart is so powerful, it does not even need words. The woman with the issue of blood, desired to be healed. She came and touched Jesus and that was all. The official desired that his daughter be raised from the dead. He came to Jesus and expressed what he felt within, and that was all. My dear, it doesn’t matter what the situation is. Does your heart truly believe that Jesus is able to save you?
