HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 13TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: More than lip service!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR MONDAY JUNE 27 2022

Amos 2:6-10,13-16; Matt. 8:18-22

Following Jesus requires more than lip service. The first reading reminds us that no one can outsmart God. We can’t continue to receive the body and blood of Christ with lips weighed down by cursing and profanities of the most unimaginable kind. Following Jesus means leaving everything else behind. There’s none more foul smelling than the sinner who believes himself a saint; the evildoer who wallows in wrong doing.

Friends, when judgement comes, no one can outrun it. The fast runner will not escape, the mighty man will be powerless to save himself, the bowman will not stand his ground. Now is the time to live for the truth. In the gospel reading, we see that although we’re all in the same race, each of us is to run on a specific track. We cannot worry about comfort, or other factors that can detract us from our tracks. Let’s ask God for grace today, that we might run in our tracks to the end. Amen.

Good day dear. God bless your week ahead.
