HOMILY FOR FRIDAY WITHIN THE OCTAVE OF EASTER
THEME: Give God Glory
BY: Fr. Gerald M. Musa
HOMILY FOR FRIDAY APRIL 22 2022
The disciples were exhausted, disappointed, and discouraged after toiling a whole night without catching fish. Jesus appeared to them and instructed them to change their old methods. He said to them, “Cast the net to the right side of the boat” (John 21:6). They obeyed him and had a bumper catch. Likewise, Jesus comes to us in those moments of failure when we have exhausted our strength when we run short of ideas when our plans and strenuous efforts are not yielding results. He comes to show us a better way and leads us toward the path of success and provides a lasting solution to our challenges. Our success can be attributed to an aggregate of factors, namely: our determination, resilience, and willingness to obey God’s instruction. Our success is not only based on our tears, sweat, and blood but by the grace of God. Some people have worked harder, longer, and smarter than us who may not have the same privileges as us. Whatever we have comes from God. We must always give God the glory for who we are and for what we have. “Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted” (Psalm 127:1). Can we continually fix our gaze on him in our dark moments? Do we see his mysterious presence in our successes and achievements?
