Homily for Friday
(Jn. 14:1-6) Friday of the Fourth Week of Easter
In today’s Gospel Jesus admonished His apostles about having faith in Him. Jesus knew how difficult it is to believe what He was telling them. But at this point, Jesus hoped that His words and miracles had opened their hearts and minds to allow the grace of faith to come in. And He gave assurance of a home away from home. The Father had prepared a place for them, for us. Even if He will go away, He will come back to personally take us with Him. These were consoling words from Jesus.
When we travel, a place to stay is a must. After the day is done, a place to go “home” gives peace and comfort. Here on earth, there is always a place which we call home. It is there that we are secured, at peace, happy, and rested. It is where we are rooted. It is our destiny. Earth is not that place. It is our temporary home while on journey towards our true home. Our true home is with God in heaven.
Jesus’ words were meant to encourage the disciples to seek the Kingdom so as to be with the Father. Jesus, when He went up to heaven, after fulfilling His mission, was full of joy because He was going home to His Father. He reminds us of this same experience and destiny. When the time comes, we will also leave this earth. Hopefully, our way is towards our true home. When we have the Lord Jesus, who is the Way, we will certainly be on our way home. We were meant to be with the Father. Jesus said that our hearts will not rest until it rests in Him. Let us do our part. Be close to Jesus. Or better, always be in the Lord Jesus.
