Homily for Friday of the 2nd Week of Advent

Theme: Stay focused!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Homily for Friday December 10 2021
Is.48:17-19; Matt.11:16-19

A gathering of children can be full of surprises, not to mention their confusion and indecisiveness most times. It’s a lot worse when they are in the market place – their noisiness and distractions are multiplied. Children shouting at each other cannot stay focused. Listen to what Isaiah says in the first reading, “O that you had listened to my commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, .and your righteousness like the waves of the sea; your offspring would have been like the sand, and your descendants like its grains; their name would never be cut off or destroyed from before me.”

Friends, think about this for a second. The alert person does not follow the counsel of the wicked, nor linger in the way of sinners. He/she does not get pulled along with the crowd. Instead of trying to pick out reasons why we must not follow the teachings of the gospel, let’s rather be humble, and change from our evil deeds. Where are those who insisted John was possessed and Jesus was a glutton, drunk, friend of tax collectors and sinners. Where are those who refused to be converted in Jesus’s day? It’s time to move away from the childish crowd; it’s time to stay away from the noise of the market place. It’s time to stay focused.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead.ý
