HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 14TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: Stay focused!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR FRIDAY JULY 8 2022

Hosea 14:2-10; Matt.10:16-23

Have you ever been to races? You know, the 100 meters dash, 200 meters, and others? Sometimes, some athletes begin running with so much focus and strength, but lose that focus soon afterwards. Some others who were in front may even fall down and break a leg. Again, there are others who begin at an even pace, maintain their stance, and end at an even pace. But whether or not you get to run faster or slower, the thing about racing is that you must finish once you begin. At no point is one allowed to drop out of the race.

Though heaven is not about who gets to the finish line first, it’s nonetheless certainly about getting to the finish line. As we run the race of life, wolves may bare fangs at us, we may have to go before tyrants and pagans to bear witness to Jesus Christ, men and women may lie against us and beat us up without cause, brother may betray brother, and the father his child; yet we simply cannot drop out of the heavenly race. We have to remain on the tracks, stay focused, and run till the end. On your marks, get set, GO!

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead!
