HOMILY FOR FRIDAY BEFORE EPIPHANY. (1)

HOMILY FOR FRIDAY BEFORE EPIPHANY.

THEME: Who can overcome the world?

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).

HOMILY FOR JANUARY 6TH.

1Jn.5:5-13; Mark 1:6-11 (Luke 3:23-38)

Overcoming the world does not refer to driving Bugattis and Lamborghinis, or wearing crazy pants and dark shades, with a pompous look and a determined, arrogant slant to the shoulders. No way! Overcoming the world belongs in the realm of the spirit. The one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God (the same Jesus who came by water, blood and Spirit), and does not conform to the pattern of this world, has overcome the world.

RELATED: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY WITHIN CHRISTMAS SEASON.

At Jesus’s baptism, John washed him with water, the Spirit descended in the form of a dove, and the voice of the Father confirmed his Sonship. Though Jesus was thought to be Joseph’s Son, he was indeed God’s begotten Son. This is what matters therefore, that God has given us eternal life through His Son. This is the conviction that moves us to act differently from what the world expects of us. This is why corporal and spiritual works of mercy become priorities for us, in the Heavenly race. Friends, Jesus came into the world to transform it. It’s time for us to do same.
