HOMILY FOR CORPUS CHRISTI YEAR C
THEME: THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST
BY: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu
HOMILY FOR SUNDAY JUNE 19 2022
On this Sunday the church celebrates the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). In most ecclesiastical jurisdictions, it is celebrated on Thursday after Trinity Sunday . But some others put it on the Subday after Holy Trinity. Still many others have the Corpus Christi procession on the solemnity of Christ The King.
The Body and Blood of Christ is a very precious gift to humanity. It celebrates the coming together of heaven and earth. Those in heaven and those on earth become one in Christ. It also gives humanity the chance to share in the food of the angels. The Lord multiplied the loaves for the crowds (Lk. 9:11-17). This shows how he cares for the poor, the hungry and the needy. We ask for more blessings.
As Melchizedek brought bread and wine and blessed God (Gen. 14:18-20), so do we present ourselves to God through Christ. We ask God to bless us as we place all our hope in him. As Paul passed onto us what he received from the Lord (1cor.11:23-26), may we adore the body and blood of Christ and receive blessings, amen. Happy Sunday.
