HOMILY FOR CHRISTMAS DAY.
THEME: “GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST”
BY: Fr. Cajetan Anyanwu
On this day December 25,we celebrate the Nativity of the Lord Jesus Christ. The entire world that lived in darkness has seen a great light. Jesus is that Great Light who illulines every dark corner of the globe. We celebrate the birth of the King of kings and the Lord of lords. He is the Emmanuel, God is with us. Since God has taken our nature we rejoice and welcome him among us.
RELATED: HOMILY FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD.
As we rejoice because a savior is born to us, we must not forget that we need peace, reconciliation and fraternal love. Integrity should be our new name. For the prophet Isaiah says: ” … and you will be called by a new name, one which the mouth of the Lord will confer… no longer are you to be named ‘Forsaken’,, nor your land ‘Abandoned’ ; ut you shall be called ‘My Delight’ .. for the Lord takes delight in you” (Is. 62:1-5).
Those who believe in Christ and do the right thing shall experience great joy in their hearts. They will listen to the narrative of how Jesus was born by the Virgin Mary and be filled with integrity and wisdom. They will hear the angel telling Joseph to take Mary home as his wife, “because she has conceived what is in her by the Holy Spirit ” (Mtt. 1:1-25). They will hear the angels singing: “GLORY to God in the highest hewv3n, and peace to men who enjoy his favor” (Lk: 2:1-14). Above all, those who accept Jesus Christ born in a Manger will also extend their helping hands to the poor in our midst. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
