HOMILY FOR 23RD THURSDAY OF ORDINARY TIME: YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: BE MERCIFUL!
BY: Fr. Kevin Oselumhense Anetor
The Gospel reading today is like music to the ears. Indeed, the precepts of the Lord gladden the heart. Imagine what a world we would have if we learned to bear wrongs patiently, to forgive injuries, to give without counting the cost, to show mercy even to the most undeserving. But the fact remains that as often as we strive to attain this level of spiritual maturity, we sometimes fail.

Friends, we must not be discouraged. Grace must build on our desire to be better. If we must put on compassion, kindness, lowliness, meekness, and patience, as St Paul encourages us to do in the first reading, then malice, jealousy, envy, hatred, biases and prejudices must disappear. Our daily striving to be better must include going the extra mile to love the enemy, to assist the stingy, to be kind to the rude stranger, to be merciful to the wicked… This is what being merciful looks like.
Prayer
Dear Father, I resolve this day to forgive those who have wronged me and to ask forgiveness of those I’ve offended in one way or another, through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
