HOMILY FOR 16TH MONDAY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY FOR 16TH MONDAY OF ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: THE SIGN

BY: Fr. Ernest Cross

Exod 14:5-18; Psalm (Exod 15:1-6); Matt 12:38-42

The Pharisees’ demand for a sign reveals a profound spiritual sickness. This sickness is the addiction to the extraordinary that blinds us to the present grace. They seek external show of power while standing before the Word made flesh. The tragedy of our age is that we crave miracles while missing the miracle.

The constant quest for signs shows a fundamental misunderstanding of faith. Faith is not the reward for witnessing wonders, but the capacity to recognize God’s presence in the ordinary—in bread broken, in words spoken, in love shared.

The greatest sign is not what dazzles the eyes, but what converts the heart. Let us pray for eyes to see the divine presence already among us.

God bless you.
