HOMILY THEME: HAVE A ROCK-SOLID FOUNDATION!

Gen 16:1-12, 15-16; Psalm 105(106):1-5; Matt 7:21-29
Foundation is everything. When I was little, my parents taught me a couple of things: ‘don’t eat anywhere outside the home, don’t eat suya, don’t stay out late, make sure you tell someone where you’re going before leaving the house…’ When I got older, I broke some of these rules of course, but these foundational principles shaped me. Today, Jesus says Christianity is not about lip service; it’s about being sensible and having a rock solid foundation, by acting on the word of God.

These days we see how mega churches have become cinema houses. Deliverance and so-called miracles are televised for the world to see. Hmmm. We must be careful. Heaven is not about miracles, prophesying and casting out demons. Your pastor may be able to heal the sick and raise the dead, he may be able to tell you your account balance from the pulpit, or know the name of your grandmother… But what’s all that if he fails to make heaven? Faith must be based on the person of Jesus Christ the solid rock; not on sinking sand. Maybe it’s time for us to reevaluate our Christian principles. Are we on Christ the solid rock?
