Fr. Ben’s homily for Wednesday of the 34th Week in Ordinary Time Cycle I

Theme: READING THE HANDWRITING ON THE WALL!

By: Ben Agbo (Rev Fr)

Homily for Wednesday November 24 2021

*Dan 5 : 1 – 28, Lk 21 : 12 – 19.
We are faced today with the reality of executive sacrilege in many of our churches and temples; the reality of consumerism, drunkenness and sexual reveries around the house of God; the reality of bribery and corruption in high places of leadership; the reality of cultism and celebrated idolatry in the disguise of tradition. In today’s 1st reading, when King Belshazzar crossed his bounds, the ominous handwriting from God appeared on the wall.
Today, we need men of God with the spirit of wisdom and discernment that Daniel had, to read the ominous handwriting on our wall here in Nigeria and be able to give undiluted prophesy to our kings. We need men of God who can direct our Presidents, Governors, Senators and politicians aright politically and spiritually.
The imminence of persecution for the children of God is clear. The reality of Islamization and other vestiges of oppression from cultists is looming round and about us. There is the need for the children of God to have the courage to bear testimony and suffer persecutions even from their domestic closets. The Word of God says: ‘You will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and kinsmen and friends and some of you will be put to death …’ If we are able to read the handwriting on the wall, we would understand the mind of God for our country Nigeria. We would stop all these sycophantic behaviour and stand for the truth and be able to speak to power always in season and out of seasons. What we need now is for the people of God to unite and say ‘No’ to bad leadership in Nigeria both in the Church and in the secular state. The truth is that whether we are in Biafra or Nigeria, without good leadership we are going no where.
May God bless you today!
