DAILY REFLECTION FOR MONDAY OF THE 19TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: CIVIC DUTY

BY: SR. J. K. OSIYEMI, EHJ

REFLECTION FOR MONDAY AUGUST 8 2022

Mt 17: 22 – 29.

When I fulfill my civic responsibilities as Jesus did, I contribute to the growth, progress and peace of my nation. It is God’s design that I should be born into a particular nation, race and culture, therefore, I must be loyal and patriotic. Do I evade tax payment? What is my attitude in public places? Do I jump queue in banks? Do I obey the traffic light? Do I pay my societal dues and levies? Do I vote during election for people who are capable, or is my voting based on ethnicity and religion alone, rather than on true values and right principles?

LET US PRAY
Help me Lord Jesus to be a law-abiding citizen. May I go beyond the call of duty, and generously do more than is required. Rid me of the temptation to evade my responsibilities and duties to my beloved country. Help me to respect my friends and to desist from doing things that offend them. Amen.
