Daily reflection for Friday of the 3rd Week of Advent

Theme: JESUS’ FAMILY TREE

By: Sr. J. K. Osiyemi, EHJ

Reflection for Friday December 17 2021

Mt 1: 1 -17.

Jesus is God, but at the same time he is human with flesh and blood like me. Therefore, he understands me, and I too can make effort to imitate him and walk in his footsteps. Jesus is not fictional or mythical. He is real. Divinity is mysteriously divine when united with the mess of our humanity. It is significant that Jesus came from a lineage of not totally perfect people. Like Jesus, my family tree is not perfect. Am I proud of my family tree and background despite the black sheep amongst us? Do I believe that Jesus can respond positively to my human weakness by turning things around for my good?

LET US PRAY
Lord Jesus, you existed in time and history, help me to appreciate you for taking up the weakness of our human flesh. Help my family members to live holy and happy lives. Heal the brokenness in families. Make me proud of my ancestral heritage and good culture. Dear Jesus, I must not resign myself to a fatalistic mentality. Through you, I can break all curses and negative effects of my family tree from befalling on me. I believe that with your grace I can make a difference in my family. Help me to be holy, humble, gentle and compassionate like you. Amen.
