Theme: TRUE LIVING WATER

Homily for Tuesday March 29 2022
Ezekiel speaks of water flowing from the temple which feeds trees, making them provide food and keeping their leaves and fruits ever fresh. The Gospel mentions another water in Jerusalem in a pool called Bethzatha where Jesus healed a man who was sick for 38 years. The man had waited so long by the miraculous pool for someone to put him into the water, but finding none to help him. Jesus came and asked him if he wanted to be healed. He answered, “There is no one to help me…” (John 5:7). Jesus healed him by telling him, “Rise, take up your pallet and walk” (John 5:8). Jesus demonstrates greater power than the water at Bethzatha because He is the Living Water. The healing water which prophet Ezekiel speaks about is a prophecy of the Living Water of baptism that communicates the life of God. It is the water from the side of Jesus which cleanses sin. More still, the water flowing from the temple signifies the outpouring of God’s grace in our lives, enabling us to be fruitful, strong and fresh in the spirit. Like this sick man, there are people who are critically sick and weak and have no one to help them. Can we imitate Jesus, in this season of Lent by being missionaries of God’s mercy through helping the needy and introducing them to Jesus, the Living Water?
