DAILY HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 11TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME CYCLE II

THEME: Move beyond the expected!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR TUESDAY JUNE 14 2022

I Kings 21:17-29; Matt. 5:43-48;

The thing about Christianity is that God expects us to rise above ‘average’. He expects us to get to that point where we do good even to those who’ve been evil to us. After all, God causes his sun to rise on honest and dishonest men and women alike. Even when we commit the most grievous sins and double-deal like Ahab in the first reading, then still go ahead to swallow his most Holy Body and Blood, he does not slap our faces with an invisible hand, and make our mouths drip with blood. No!

Friends, when Jesus says to go beyond loving those who love us and greeting those who greet us, he wasn’t joking. As Christians, we simply cannot afford to remain at the level of those who have no faith. We read today that there never was anyone like Ahab for double dealing and for doing what is displeasing to the Lord. Yet God forgave him for murder and covetousness when he genuinely asked for mercy. We too must pray for our enemies, particularly those who seek our downfall, that they too may be humble enough to seek God’s face. This is the path to Christian maturity and perfection.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
