Homily for Saturday November 20 2021

I Macc.6:1-13; Luke 20:27-40

King Antiochus had conquered many nations, but he obviously wasn’t satisfied. He wanted more riches – gold and silver from a city called Elymais. But things did not turn out the way he planned, and his greed brought him deep distress, insomnia, melancholic bouts and finally, death in a foreign land.

Friends, when we worry too much about material things, we lose sight of the hereafter. We become as foolish Antiochus and those Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection but wanted riches, fame and power; and to know who married whom in heaven, respectively. Though we are in the world, we are not children of the world. We must therefore meditate on the importance of our lives and our death sometimes, realising that nothing here lasts forever.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend!
