DAILY HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 28TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR II

THEME: That which is greater!

BY: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY FOR MONDAY OCTOBER 10 2022

Gal.4:22-24,26-27,31-5:1; Luke 11:29-32

A bird was caged for quite a long time. One day, its owner decided to set it free. Opening the cage, he threw the bird high into the air and let it go. But surprisingly, the bird extended its wings and landed back on the ground. It took many minutes before it realised it was free and flew off. Friends, although Christ has long since freed us, some of us are yet to realise it. We continue to cling to sin; to injustice, to corruption. We refuse to ‘let go’ of the very habits that weigh us down. See?

Friends, it’s not about rushing from crusade to crusade looking for next generation ‘religious contractors’ to dole out miracles. It’s not about seeking signs, wonders and magic. It’s rather about coming to the realisation that there is One greater than these – Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We must take stock, look back, and retrace our steps. Only genuine change of heart can bring us to a sign greater than that of the Queen of Sheba, as well as the sign of Jonah. Just as the Queen of Sheba heard Solomon’s wisdom and was better for it, so too must we listen to the wisdom in God’s Word today. Lord, increase our faith.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead.
