7TH TUESDAY HOMILY OF EASTER — YEAR A

7TH TUESDAY HOMILY OF EASTER — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: JESUS, MAKE US TO BE FAITHFUL

BY: Fr. Ernest Cross

Acts 20:17-27; Psalm 67(68):10-11, 20-21; John 17:1-11

This morning gospel reading is the beginning of the famous prayer of Jesus on the night before he died that we find in the gospel of John.

Jesus prays for others as well as for himself in the prayer. In his self-prayers, he asks God to honour him and see him through the journey he is about to embark on—the voyage from this world back to God, his Father. He also offers prayers for other people especially for his followers who will remain in this world while he had gone. Knowing that even though he is leaving this world, they must stay here and that the world will not always be there for them, he prays for them.More often than not, the world will be antagonistic towards them.

Like Jesus, we frequently find ourselves praying for others as well as for ourselves when we pray. Both types of prayer are acceptable. The way Jesus prayed for himself serves as a model for how we should pray for ourselves.

We are to ask God to assist us in following the path that He has called us to, just as Jesus did. In other words, we pray to be faithful to the task and the path that God desires for us.

God bless you.
