4TH TUESDAY HOMILY OF EASTER — YEAR A

4TH TUESDAY HOMILY OF EASTER — YEAR A

HOMILY THEME: BY THEIR FRUIT, WE SHALL KNOW THEM

BY: Fr. Isaac Awe

Acts 11: 19–26; John 10:22–30

Have we placed our lives securely in God where it belongs? One with the father makes us productive and successful!

We are called upon today in our first reading to remain faithful to God in our moments of joy and challenges. Three qualities needed to be devoted and committed are exemplified by Barnabas who was tagged to be a good man, filled with the Holy Spirit and possessed faith in the master who sent him to proclaim the gospel of love and repentance . He did that because he was one with the Father, he obeyed the father through listening to God’s ordinance. Barnabas was known through by his positive exhibitions, the questions for us today are: What are we good for? Under what circumstances do people remember to call on us?

Jesus also speaks of the tremendous trust he has in God his Father and the tremendous trust we ought to have in him, our Good Shepherd. The security Jesus offers is an abiding relationship with the living God, and membership with his flock, the people of God. Jesus also promises the security of peace and protection from evil and the greatest harm that could befall us — eternal destruction. The Lord does not spare us from all trouble. In this life we will experience pain, suffering, sickness, and death. But through these the Lord will lead us to ultimate victory and safety in his everlasting home. Even in the midst of our sufferings we can find a peace and security which no one can give except God alone. We can confidently follow the Lord wherever he leads, trusting that nothing can keep us from God if we trust in him.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd. In you we place all our hope and we entrust ourselves to you completely. Increase our confidence in your saving grace and in your abiding presence. Amen.
