26TH WEDNESDAY HOMILY IN THE ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: GUARDIAN ANGELS

BY: Bishop Gerald M. Musa

Job 38: 1 – 40: 5, Lk 10: 13 – 16

In Christian theology, Guardian Angels are believed to be heavenly beings assigned by God to protect and accompany individuals throughout their lives. St. Thomas Aquinas once said, “The angels do not leave us, even though we may not see them. The angels are our guardians, who, though invisible, are always present.” This idea is supported by Scripture, as seen in Psalm 91:11-12: “For he will give his angels charge of you to guard you in all your ways. On their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.”

Jesus also emphasized the significance of angels in protecting the vulnerable when He said, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones; for I tell you that in heaven their angels always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 18:10). These passages remind us of God’s deep care for us and how He sends celestial beings to guard us against harm.

In addition to the unseen protection of angels, wise people often say that “angels are often disguised as friends or family.” These earthly angels are the people who care for and support us in times of need. In a world filled with uncertainties, we can take comfort in knowing that our Guardian Angels are always watching over us, working tirelessly without rest. Just as God remains faithful in His protection, we should strive to remain faithful in seeking His guidance and walking in His ways.
