26TH THURSDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: YOUR PEACE WILL REST ON THAT MAN

BY: Fr Deotacious Chikontwe SMA

Job 19:21-27, Ps. 27:7-9,13-14, Luke 10:1-12

FROM OUR FIRST READING
In our first reading, Job cries out for compassion in his deep suffering. He feels abandoned and misunderstood by his friends, and his pain is unbearable. This reflection on human suffering reminds us that when people are hurting, they need others to show them kindness and understanding. It is easy to forget that someone may be struggling, even if we cannot see it.

FROM OUR GOSPEL READING
In our gospel reading, Jesus tells His disciples to bring peace to the homes they visit. He instructs them to offer peace to those who welcome them and their message. This simple act of offering peace shows that those who accept God’s word will receive a special gift of peace in their hearts and homes.

CONCLUSION
Dear friends in Christ, Job’s cry for compassion speaks to the way we should treat others, especially those going through hard times. Sometimes, a simple gesture of care or a listening ear can help someone feel less alone in their suffering. We are reminded through Job’s pain to be gentle and compassionate with others.
Let us always also remember that, when we welcome God into our lives, we can experience this peace that Jesus speaks about. It is not just the absence of conflict but a deeper peace that comes from knowing and trusting God. The disciples were sent out to bring this message of peace, and they were also told to leave if their peace was not accepted. This reminds us that peace is a gift we must choose to accept.

May God Bless His Words in our Hearts. Amen.
