25TH TUESDAY HOMILY IN THE ORDINARY TIME: YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: „MY MOTHER AND BROTHERS ARE THOSE WHO DO THE WILL OF GOD“
BY: Fr Deotacious Chikontwe SMA
Ezra 6:7-8, 12, 14-40; Psalm 121(122):1-5; Luke 8:19-21
Introduction
Today’s readings talk about two main ideas: coming back home and letting our light shine.
From Our First Reading
In the first reading, from the book of Ezra, we hear about the Israelites. They had been living far from their home for a long time. They were held as prisoners in a place called Babylon. But then, God moved the heart of King Cyrus. He let the Israelites go back to Jerusalem to rebuild God’s house, the Temple. This shows us that God is always faithful. Even when we are far from Him, He is working to bring us back. He never forgets us.

From Our Gospel Reading
In our Gospel reading , Jesus talks about light. He says, “No one lights a lamp and hides it.” He means that the good news of God’s love (the light) is not just for us to keep to ourselves. It is a gift we must share with others. Our faith should be a light that helps people find their way. We are called to be like that lamp, shining brightly so others can see God’s love through us.
Jesus also tells us to “be careful how you listen.” It is not enough to just hear God’s word. We need to really think about it and let it change us.
So, the main message is this: God works to bring us back to Him, and then we must share His light with others. God’s love is meant to be a light that we carry into the world.
Let’s ask ourselves today: Am I letting my light shine for others? Or am I hiding it? Let’s try to be a light for those around us, showing them God’s great love.
