23RD MONDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: GET RID OF THE YEAST!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
1 Cor 5:1-8, Psalm 5:5-7,12; Luke 6:6-11
A Nigerian proverb says, “when one’s goat has been stolen, the aroma of the neighbour’s soup becomes suspicious.” The Scribes and Pharisees felt Jesus had stolen their “shine” and deflated their ego. The resultant effect was not to see anything good in whatever he did. But Jesus didn’t mind. He was never interested in winning approval from men, not to mention those who were too hypocritical to see beyond their pride. For him, doing good, and saving life was more important than Sabbath regulations.

Friends, this is the more reason why we must eliminate the yeast of evil and wickedness from our midst, as St Paul encourages the Corinthians to do. Do you have a friend that constantly encourages you to lie, cheat, steal, drink, smoke, fornicate, and do other things that are evil? It’s time to let that friend go. It’s not easy to break away from situations or persons that pulls us down. But we must bear in mind that one who tries to help a drowning man must be very careful else he/she is pulled down by the one he/she intended saving. May God help us to be people of good deeds, Amen.
God bless your week ahead.
