Homily for the 7th Day within the Octave of Christmas.

Homily theme: Don’t simply mark time!
(1Jn. 2:15-21; John 1:1-18)

Back in the day, when we were taught how to march, there was a particular command, ‘mark time’. This command required that we kept marching on the same spot. In other words, we were expected to raise our heels high up in the air and hit them with a bang on the ground, without actually making any progress. We marched, but not forwards nor backwards. It was activity without progress.

Friends, the year is ending. Yes! It’s the last day of the month of December, and 2026 begins tomorrow. The readings remind us that only those who never really belonged to God can get lost. For to everyone who believes, God gives power to be called his children. We cannot simply mark time. We ought to actually make progress. We must recognise that Jesus is God, and he is the light and life of the world. Anyone who rejects this truth, cannot progress. It is from Christ’s full
