20TH THURSDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR B
HOMILY THEME: GOD CANNOT BE STRANDED
BY: Fr. Onuoja Bright Day
Isa 9:1-6; Psalm 112(113):1-8; Luke 1:26-38
The call of God as we see in the gospel reading today is a universal call. His call started from a certain individuals but their refusal brought about the extension of his call. God in his generosity does not limit his call to a particular set of people. This is due to his love for all human beings, irrespective of your tribe, your complexion, your influence or your worth.

When the first groups of people that had the opportunity of the call of God rejected his call, he sent for other people. Brethren, this is a lesson for us all that, there is no one who is indispensable in the presence of God. Even in the world, no one is indispensable. Do not be unavailable for God, because God cannot be stranded. So, use the opportunity of your call to glorify God and he will bless you and grant you salvation.
“brothers, let your minds be filled with everything that is true, everything that is honourable, everything that is upright and pure, everything that we love and admire — with whatever is good and praiseworthy.”Philippians 4:8
It is therefore a wake up call for us all not to take the call of God for granted.
Again, we see the unpreparedness of the young man who followed those who were called. He was called also, but the transactions of this world took his mind and he allowed his divine garment to be taken away by the world. God needs you in his presence, but he does not need you to be of double standard. You cannot worship the living God and also worship other gods.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus Christ, we are your people. Please do not allow us to perish. Wash us clean from our impurities and all forms of defilements. Grant us a willing spirit to answer your call. We pray for safety today, Lord, lead us safely in your care in Jesus name. AMEN
