HOMILY THEME: LIVING IN LOVE AND UNITY

God created us to live in unity with him and with each other. We can know this unity because God’s only begotten son removed every dividing wall by his death on the cross.
What’s the best way to repair a damaged relationship? Jesus offers his disciples spiritual freedom and power for restoring broken or injured relationships. Jesus makes clear that his followers should not tolerate a breach in relationships among themselves. Sin must be confronted and help must be offered to restore a damaged relationship. When relationships between brothers and sisters in the Lord are damaged, then we must spare no effort to help the brother or sister at fault to see their error and to get things right again.

God created us in love, and it is this very lovely that he wants to pour into our hearts. Because we are his people the “sheep of his flock”(psalm 95:7). God leads us, guides us, and disciplined us out of love. We are the delight of his heart, and all his works, his provisions, his compassion, and his discipline are intended to lead us back to him.
Out of this same heart of love, Jesus calls us to help our brothers and sisters, to seek the best for them and to lead them back to the father. Sometimes this may include saying things that are difficult in order to protect and nurture their relationship with God. As hard as this may be , the debt of love we owe each other in Christ compels us (Romans 13:8). We love because Christ first loved us; out of this love, we seek to build one another up in the lord.
PRAYER: Father, may the unity that Jesus won for us on the cross be at the centre of our hearts as we serve others in your name. Help us to love one another with the same love you have shown us. Amen.
