14TH WEDNESDAY HOMILY IN ORDINARY TIME — YEAR A
HOMILY THEME: REFRAINING FROM REVENGE!
BY: Fr Oselumhense Anetor
Gen 41:55-57; 42:5-7, 17-24; Psalm 33(34):2-3, 10-11, 18-19; Matt 10:1-7
A hunter once had the opportunity to make a great kill. The wolf before him was already caught in a trap, and in so much pain. This was the same wolf that had eaten most of his lambs. But rather than shoot it, the hunter had pity on the wolf and took it home. He nursed it and cared for it till it regained the strength in its limbs. For many years, this wolf dutifully saved the life of the hunter and his sheep from other wild beasts in the forest, including other wolves.

Friends, no one knows tomorrow. In today’s first reading, Joseph is face to face with the same brothers who sold him into slavery. Yet he refrained from exacting vengeance. Isn’t it interesting how we suddenly become remorseful when someone we wronged in the past becomes our Lord and Master in the future? The evil we do today will definitely catch up with us, irrespective of how much energy we expend trying to cover up our tracks. So we must learn not to destroy one another, even when we have the power to do so, and even when destroying them feels right. We must learn something from Joseph’s compassionate example.
Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
